Wellness Exams
Blackhawk Veterinary Hospital recommends a complete wellness exam every 6-12 months for all young and generally healthy pets. Examinations every 6 months are encouraged for all senior pets and for pets with chronic medical conditions.
A wellness exam is a thorough "nose to tail" exam of your pet and provides a picture of your pets overall health and aids in identifying changes at an early stage. This is a good time to share information about your pet's health, and to ask any questions you may have. Annual wellness exams are the key to maintaining you pet's health and well being.
Vaccinations
Thanks to advances in veterinary medicine, many diseases fatal to pets can be prevented through the use of vaccines. When it comes to vaccines, each pet has unique needs. Blackhawk Veterinary Hospital tailors vaccine protocols to the needs of each pet. We take into account factors such as your pet's lifestyle, state and local regulations, and the potential exposure to local endemic diseases. The veterinarian and staff will help you determine which vaccine protocol is best for your pet.
Pet identification - Microchipping
A sturdy collar and identification tag are a great way to identify your pet and keep him or her safe, but sometimes these items are not enough. Microchipping your pet is a permanent, safe and easy way to identify your pet and help assure he returns home safely. About the size of a grain of rice, a microchip is implanted under your pet's skin in a procedure similar to vaccination. Veterinary hospitals and animal shelters across the country are equipped with scanners capable of detecting and reading microchips. If your pet is lost, his microchip is scanned, and the information is used to reunite you and your pet.
Blackhawk Veterinary Hospital implants HomeAgain microchips. For more information about HomeAgain microchips, click here.
